Summer Academy Programme

Join us this summer from the 15th July on a one or two week summer academy
St-Edmunds Summer Camp

At LanguageUK Canterbury we want our summer school students to be more confident at using English while enjoying their learning experience and developing important skills for their future.

Problem solving, critical thinking, effective communication and team work are just some of the skills that students might not have yet, but will need in their future life and career. That’s why, we encourage our students to study on our summer courses which are project-based.

Projects allow students to collaborate in English, working towards a final goal, improving their knowledge of the English language and developing a set of skills in a fun environment. Whether it is about delivering a final presentation, shooting a movie or creating a music band, students’ talents and skills will be tested and used to produce the best possible outcome!

Students will be encouraged to interact and take part in discussions, decisions, and scenarios where they will develop their fluency, expand their vocabulary, perfect their pronunciation and improve their listening skills.

The simulating topics they will be able to work on (creating a music band, acting a scene from a musical, presenting an invention, enacting a court scenario, broadcasting a film premiere, etc.) will allow students to grow in all areas of the English language, reaching an established goal and feeling proud of the results achieved on their course.

All of this will happen in the fantastic settings of our St. Edmund’s campus based in Canterbury and with an amazing view from the hill! The campus offers plenty of space for students to enjoy facilities such as tennis courts, football pitches, a theatre and a music hall, along with a beautiful residence in a traditional British style!

Course Structure

Weekly lessons

Tuition will be in the morning from Monday to Sunday, with a break on Tuesdays, when students will go on a full-day trip (see relevant section below). Lessons will be student-centred and will aim at developing all English language skills, with a particular focus on speaking and listening.
Students will be classed according to age and level and to achieve this, they will be sent an online test to take before they arrive in Canterbury.

Meals

Students will have their meals in the residence canteen every day, except for Tuesdays, when they will have a packed-lunch to eat on their full-day trip (see relevant section below). If students have special dietary requirements because they are allergic or intolerant to some foods, please inform the school, so we can make the relevant changes to the menu. Please note that any special dietary requirement will be charged at an extra cost.

Afternoon activities and excursions

During the week LanguageUK organises daily activities and excursions for our students. In some of these, students will be able to practice English expressions learnt during the morning classes and students might have to complete tasks related to the trip. On Sunday afternoons, students will present their project outcome and receive their attendance certificates as a conclusion to their course.

Evening Activities

Students will take part in six weekly evening activities such as music events, sports competitions, disco nights and rehearsals in preparation of their final project presentation.

Full-day trips

Every Tuesday students are taken on a full-day trip to London, where they will have a morning guided walking tour and some free time in the afternoon to explore some areas of the city in their groups. Staff members will accompany on the trip and be around to supervise.
